Camp 48 Changes Lives

Can we come back before school is out for the summer? If not, can we plan another Camp 48 over the summer?" "Although I’m graduating in May, can I come back for the next Camp 48?" I continue to be bombarded daily with questions from students about our next camp experience. Ever since we came back from our 48 hour camp at Tuscoba, students have created a buzz of excitement on campus. Those who could not attend can’t wait until the opportunity presents itself again.

The focus of the camp was to teach students that they have been chosen by God and they must choose Him back. Andrae was one of our campers. Andrae was the very first student I met at Central High School last year. Several conversations with him led to his sharing how he struggles with his identity. He is not sure where he fits in to life. I have been praying for him all year and hoped that I would get the chance to see him come to Christ before his senior year ended. On Saturday night of the camp my prayer was answered. The YFC staff did a great job of presenting our need for Christ and how to respond to His invitation. Andrae chose Christ that night. I was ecstatic but a bit concerned if he really understood his commitment. After following up with him, it was clear that this young man had experienced something new at Camp 48. Through tears he expressed his need for Christ. He said "I’m serious about following Jesus." He wanted more than to just know about God. He wanted Jesus.

We are in the follow up stage right now with Andrae and two other students. Although from time to time, we still see traces of the "old" Andrae, it’s clear that he is changing. He’s becoming the person God designed him to be. He continues to ask me questions about his new faith. He’s found a new life in Christ and he can honestly say he became a Christian at Camp 48. Now, like every other student who was there, I can’t wait until the next Camp 48.

YFC intends to make Camp 48 an annual event for unchurched youth across our community. Thanks to all of you who made this life-changing experience possible for so many kids.
